TV tonight: Greg Kinnear on 'Modern Family'; Michael McKean on ...

George Clooney welcomes you to his home on 'Person to Person.' Photo credit: CBS

In sweeps month, the networks bring on the guest stars. Consider tonight?s offerings:

CBS has decided to launch a new version of ?Person to Person? with megastars of film, music and finance: George Clooney, Jon Bon Jovi and Warren Buffett. Lara Logan and Charlie Rose host at 8 o?clock.?

Clooney opens his Los Angeles home to the cameras, and that gives him another chance to campaign before Oscar voters. Clooney, a best-actor nominee for ?The Descendants,? also offers his thoughts about home. He tells ?Person to Person?: ?A house is a place that you would live in, but a home is a place where your family and friends?are ? One of the wonderful things about where I?ve been for so long. I?ve been here for, you know, almost 20 years.?

?Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? presents Michael McKean as you?ve never seen him. He plays a despicable reality show producer, a role that allows the NBC drama to skewer the genre. Miranda Lambert is in the hour oh so briefly. Mariska Hargitay gets a dramatic workout in the disturbing hour at 10 o?clock.

William Devane of ?Knots Landing? pops in as Grandpa Grayson on ?Revenge? at 10 on ABC.

Former Superman Dean Cain plays a luckless gambler on ?Criminal Minds? at 9 on CBS.

If you?d prefer to laugh, Greg Kinnear plays Phil?s business partner on ABC?s ?Modern Family? at 9. Claire isn?t impressed by Kinnear?s character, and that should provide a lot of comic opportunities for Emmy-winner Julie Bowen. All the ABC sitcoms, starting with ?The Middle? at 8, are new during the February sweeps.

?Rock Center With Brian Williams? moves to its new slot: 9 p.m. Wednesdays. The show didn?t fare well on Mondays. Meredith Vieira offers an interview with Mimi Alford, who says that President John F. Kennedy seduced her when she worked at the White House. Alford had an 18-month affair with Kennedy, which she writes about in ?Once Upon a Secret My Affair.?

The night?s most-watched show is likely to be ?American Idol? at 8 on Fox. The singing contest? moves into the Hollywood round.
