Shelter pets: New feature lets readers woof it up | The World News ...

Going to animal shelters to find family pets brings many readers enormous joy. So we?re spreading the word and launching a feature today that displays photos of shelter pets and brief tales about them. Carol B. from Jefferson, Mo., sent in the first one. If you want to brag about your shelter pet, it?s so easy. Copy the format on this blog post, attach a jpeg of the cat or dog and send it along to me an e-mail. Carol B says she hopes we get lots of good stories. Start writing. Here?s what she sent in on Trudy.

Cat?s/dog?s name: Trudy

Where you got the cat/dog: Columbia (Mo.) Second Chance

What you love most about the cat/dog (one thing only): Right after my father died (almost 10 years ago), I would wake up sobbing from dreams about him. Trudy would be sitting right next to my side of the bed and would put her paw on the bed as if to console me. (She has never done that any other time in her 13 years.)

What drives you absolutely crazy about the cat/dog: The barking and the gas so bad it could scorch your nose hairs.

What your cat/dog does no other animal does: She plays hide and seek with us. She doesn?t hide, but loves to seek. When we count, 7-8-9-10 ready or not here I come, she takes off down the hallway to find the person who is hiding. (We don?t have to say anything else. She knows the ?7-8-9-10, ready or not? phrase means she gets to start looking. She absolutely loves it and does it over and over as long as we?re willing to play.)

READERS: What about pets from breeders? Not to worry. We started up a similar feature 2 years ago for those pet owners, and we?ll do it again. Any chance you?re looking for a special pet who might really need a home? Petfinder.com is encouraging people to care for less than adoptable pets. Sometimes they?re just a little older or need some extra care.
