Blog - Venture Capital Funds - Advantage Business Angels

Just back from a business breakfast meeting where the subject was access to finance.? As usual I find I always get something interesting from these meetings and today there were some information on venture capital funds.

Venture Capital Funds (VC) usually have a finite life of 10 years: 5 year to invest the money and 5 to get the returns.? The survey of performance presented at the meeting analysed the performance of 91 funds. The average performance was a loss of 8% per annum.

Worse still 70% of fund managers failed to produce a positive return and the average of those producing a positive return was 10% per annum, not bad but not that exciting.

The person presenting this information was the CEO of a small but very successful VC and his view was that just giving money to early stage businesses was a failure: he believed in ?hands on? support.

The summer has now ended and we are looking to recruit some additional investors into our Thames Valley Group based near Marlow.? We would also like to establish a group in Shrewsbury but we need a Chairman and a suitable venue.
