World University Games 2013: Team USA now 2-0 after drilling Czech Republic

Led by Creighton senior Doug McDermott?s 23 points, the USA Basketball World University Games team improved to 2-0 with another blowout victory, beating the Czech Republic 96-53.

Three other players scored in double figures, with Louisville?s Luke Hancock scoring 15, and Indiana?s Will Sheehey and Baylor?s Cory Jefferson adding 10 each. Jefferson was the team?s leading rebounder with 15, and McDermott added 10. Team USA enjoyed a 62-29 rebounding advantage.

"I'm very pleased," Team USA coach Bob McKillop said. " I see the development of the players trusting the system, the coaches understanding the talents of the players and the evolving teamwork that is a result of that. They're talking more. There are great opportunities for leadership out there for individuals; I think this is a very profitable experience every time they step on the floor with us."

Team USA amassed 10 steals, forcing 18 turnovers in all. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic notched only two steals and were 4-for-21 from 3-point range.

Team USA has Tuesday off, and Iowa?s Aaron White says the team will be doing some sightseeing. The team will return to action Wednesday, when it faces Sweden, which is 0-2 in pool play.

The World University Games is trying to match the gold medal run that Team USA?s U19 squad took home this past weekend.
