Save Money on Pet Food ? The Pet Food Chain

dog cat

If you?re thinking of getting a pet or two but are as broke as I am, you?ve really got to put some thought into how you?re going to care for your little ones. The best thing you can do is find a pet that is in part self- sufficient, and has a dual purpose in life. Here?s what I mean.

?

When you are buying pets buy ones that are in the same food chain, then start from the bottom up. By that I mean, buy from the bottom of the food chain first. Let?s start with a simple worm. You probably don?t want to name him (Wally would be a good name though), because he won?t be around long. Wally?s purpose is to feed the next pet in your food chain, your Beta fish. I chose those because they are pretty and easy to breed. Don?t buy only one. You?re going to need them to breed so you can support the next pet in line, your cat. However cats can?t live on fish alone so you?re going to want to buy a couple mice to help. They are also quick breeders and will eat pretty much anything your other pets won?t.

If you haven?t guessed yet, everything we?re doing here is to support the highest animal in our food chain, the one we really want; the family dog. Now I know you are thinking, how am I going to feed my dog if I don?t have any money? You have two food sources here. One you will provide, and the other, your cat will be happy to provide. Here?s how it works.

Let?s go with what?s not so obvious; your cat. I know what you?re thinking; do I feed my cat to my dog? Now that?s just gross! I wouldn?t in a million years. Gross! Here?s what you could do though. I learned this little tidbit from having a dog and a cat for about fifteen years. I know there is an official name for this practice but at the moment it escapes me. I?m talking about how dogs eat cats poop. I?m serious. I have seen it enough times to know this is a pretty regular thing. I wasn?t starving my dog either. So there must be some nutritional value here or the dogs wouldn?t put up with it. That?s how your cat helps feed the top of your pet food chain. But of course dogs can?t live on cat poop alone so that?s where you come in; table scraps. Dogs will eat pretty much anything, so whatever you don?t want; your dog will probably eat. Just don?t let your wife catch you slipping her prized meatloaf under the table to Fido.

And there you have it, my extreme guide to frugal pet ownership. Do take it with a grain of salt though. I have had pets all my life and have never had to adhere to the same food chain I laid out for you. And I?m not all heartless either. Notice I left Fido at the top of the pet food chain and didn?t say anything about snacking down on him. Good luck and happy feeding your pets.
