Regarded as perhaps the most spectacular Chinese New Year event in the west, London's celebrations are set to be bigger than ever in 2012, the Year of the Dragon.
To help mark the occasion, the city's premier information and booking website, LondonTown.com, have partnered with a number of the best hotels in London to bring discounts to the visiting hordes.
The Chinese New Year itself falls on 23 rd January, but the parade in London takes place on Sunday 29 th . Starting at 10am, a 300,000 strong parade wends its way through the heart of London's West End. Setting off from (where else?) Chinatown, the parade continues on through Shaftesbury Avenue, Charing Cross Road and Rupert Street, climaxing at Trafalgar Square, where dancing lions will frolic around the square's famous, rather more permanent ones.
Guest speakers include Mr. Liu Xiaming, the Chinese Ambassador to London, and Boris Johnson, the London Mayor. At midday, music, dancing and acrobatic performances begin on a specially-erected stage in Trafalgar Square, with a second stage at Shaftesbury Avenue hosting more celebrations with local community groups and schools. Official performances end at 6pm, but the revelry is expected to carry on late into the night, with plenty of impromptu street parties and food stalls pitching up across the capital.
Hotels deals courtesy of LondonTown.com include the Hilton Trafalgar, just 2 minutes walk from it's namesake square. When booking through LondonTown.com, guests can take advantage of an 84% discount on the standard rate for a double room. For ?119, stay almost in the shadow of Nelson's Column, in four star luxury. At this Hilton, classical London meets modern metropolis, with minimal design, impressive technology in every room and even a DJ in the bar, all adding to the feel of chic modernity.
